Phil Hansen was born in Benton City, Washington in 1979 and attended Shelton High School. Once he graduated, he attended the Northwest College of Art of Washington but dropped out after only two quarters. Although his formal profession is working as an x-ray technician. His breakthrough piece was a time-lapse video of a two-day project called Influences. The uploaded video was streamed more than a million times on the Web, with process and final piece clearly revealed. He began a project called Goodbye Art to help him be more spontaneous. This project involved him creating a new art piece weekly with a theme corresponding to its month. However after every piece was completed and a final piece was obtained, he destroyed all traces of it except for a photograph. The video showing his process and the final result was uploaded on his YouTube user page. In the summer of 2008, Hansen decided to discontinue the Goodbye Art project to pursue other long term projects. In January 2009, he began a new project called Art Happening. This ongoing project involves him capturing current events in the form of art. His most recent piece is Van Gogh which is made up of stories written in permanent marker but from afar is a portrait of Van Gogh. I have posted a close up and a regular view of this piece above. The next piece I have posted is called Daudi. It consists of several Starbucks cups with a portrait of Daudi created with graphite. The last piece of Phil’s work that I posted that was extremely interesting is the piece called Value of Blood. Phil compiled numerous bandages and created an image on top of the bandages.
